CUCARD groups are led by skilled staff members with expertise in cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. Groups are continuously recruiting and are offered at various times throughout the year. Unless stated below and unique to a specific program, groups are primarily being offered in person at CUCARD/ABC Manhattan or CUCARD Westchester. Age Range: 18-28
Description: As a part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP), CUCARD offers groups for young adults ages 18-28 who are experiencing distress or interference in functioning due to social anxiety. Groups are presented in an exposure-based approach to reduce anxiety and increase self-efficacy in managing anxiety-provoking and developmentally challenging situations (e.g., job/college interviews, dating, assertiveness).

Age Range: Parents of young adults who are 18-28
Description: A component of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP) at CUCARD is a brief psycho-educational and skills group for parents of emerging adults with anxiety disorders. This group is ideal for parents of young adults who have been experiencing distress or "failure to launch" and meet the demands of emerging adulthood due to anxiety.

Age Range: Parents of children ages 3-10
Description: This weekly group, for parents of children aged 3-8, will teach parents to address the Anxiety & Behavioral Challenges (ABC’s) of early childhood. Parents will learn to respond effectively to a variety of childhood difficulties, including anxious, attention-seeking behaviors, and oppositional behavior. Caretakers will learn parenting principles and evidence-based strategies that apply across a broad range of concerns, including tantrums, emotional sensitivity, noncompliance, and anxious avoidance. The ABC Parenting Group will prepare parents to handle the various day-to-day and big-picture challenges that arise during the formative years of early childhood.

Description: College Readiness Groups are part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP). The main aim of the group is to assist emerging adults with gaining knowledge and skills to aid the transition to college and to foster independence in meeting one’s needs and responsibilities.

Age Range: 7-9/Grades 2-4
Description: CUCARD’s Coping Cat Groups are for children with anxiety in social situations. This group helps children recognize anxious feelings and develop coping strategies. Group members are given opportunities to practice dealing with anxiety provoking situations.

Age Range: 10-13 (grades 5-8)
Description: CUCARD’s Middle School Social Anxiety Groups are ideal for middle school students who have difficulty in social situations due to anxiety resulting in distress, avoidance of interacting with peers and adults, and/or feeling comfortable in school, family, and extracurricular activities.

Age Range: 14-17 (grades 9-12)
Description: CUCARD’s High School Social Anxiety Group addresses anxiety in social situations (e.g., making new friends, participating in class), avoidance, and fear of being negatively evaluated by others.

Description: Adult Independence Skills Groups are offered as a part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP) and are for emerging adults (ages 18-28) who are having difficulty managing the transition into adulthood. The main aim of the group is to assist young adults with gaining independence and mastering daily tasks.

Description: CUCARD’s Adult Social Anxiety Groups are for adults who experience anxiety in social situations. Groups focus on building coping skills, cognitive reframing to challenge anxious thoughts, and exposure exercises in session and in-vivo to reduce anxiety in social situations.

Age Range: 10-13
Description: CUCARD offers Social Skills Groups to help children build and practice social skills. Aims of the group include helping children make and maintain friendships, as well as become more confident and comfortable in social situations. This group is particularly beneficial for children with ASD.
