COVID-19 Parenting Support and Skills Group

Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CUCARD) is pleased to offer a 5-session group for parents with children between the ages of 3 and 12. This group will provide a forum for parents to discuss and process challenges associated with sheltering at home, while also learning evidence-based parenting skills. Each group will provide parents with the opportunity to support each other through shared experiences. Emphasis will be placed on emotional processing and coping for parents, with relevant parenting strategies included throughout. Although there is a curriculum planned, the primary goal of this group is to meet the needs of parents, so the flow of the group and topics covered will be flexible.

Group leader will review concepts/skills such as:

- Parent-to-parent support

- Emotional processing

- Mindfulness

- Coping skills for parents

- Emotional validation

- Managing child anxiety & disurptive behavior

- Navigating uncertainty

- Preparing for the future

The group will be led by Dr. Steve Mazza, PhD. Group day/time to be determined. All group sessions will meet via the secure web-based platform Zoom.

Contact CUCARD intake coordinator, Devon Seelig, at dgs2139@cumc.columbia.edu or (212) 342-0951 to enroll or make a referral.
