Ali Mattu, M.A., is a doctoral student extern at the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CUCARD). Mr. Mattu specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety disorders, including social phobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as the treatment of body-focused repetitive behaviors such as trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder) and skin-picking. He has extensive experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy and combines exposure therapy with cognitive therapy to treat anxiety. Besides conducting individual therapy, Mr. Mattu also currently leads social effectiveness groups for children with social phobia. Mr. Mattu received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles where he majored in Psychology and minored in Asian American Studies. He is currently in the process of completing his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Mr. Mattu has trained at various other treatment facilities, including the Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington, Georgetown University Counseling and Psychiatric Service, and the Semel Institute for Neuroscience at UCLA. For his dissertation, he is evaluating how trichotillomania changes over time. Mr. Mattu has presented at several professional organizations including the American Psychological Association, the International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation, the National Conference on Trichotillomania and Skin Picking, and the Eastern Psychological Association. Mr. Mattu serves as the current Chair-Elect of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students and is a member of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Foundation.
