Dr. Rachel Jacobs specializes in empirically supported treatments for mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder among children and adolescents. She received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Reinecke as the site study coordinator for the Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study (TADS).

Dr. Jacobs’ dissertation work was funded by a National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Mental Health and her clinical internship was conducted at the Institute for Juvenile Research in Chicago, IL.

Her research interests include 1) examining cognitive mediation in treatment outcomes, 2) information processing in the development and etiology of psychopathology, and 3) the intergenerational transmission of mental illness. Dr. Jacobs is an active member of the Association for Psychological Science and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.

As a T32 funded research fellow, Dr. Jacobs is collaborating with Dr. Bradley Peterson to learn neuroimaging and to examine brain based biomarkers for depression and anxiety http://childpsych.columbia.edu/ brainimaging/.
