COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL ANXIETY MANAGEMENT GROUP FOR ADOLESCENTS

The Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders will be offering cognitive-behavioral group treatment focused on providing adolescents skills to effectively manage anxiety. Adolescents ages 15-18 diagnosed with social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder will be eligible to participate.

Treatment will focus on:

  • Psychoeducation about anxiety
  • Training in anxiety management skills
  • Application of anxiety management skills in real-life situations that trigger anxiety

This program will also provide parent group sessions to encourage appropriate support of the adolescents while teaching parents skills to decrease their accommodation of the group members’ anxiety symptoms.

Treatment will last for 16 sessions and will be held on Monday evenings from 5:00-6:30 PM.

For more information about this group, please contact Dr. Sandra Pimentel at (212) 246-5022 or pimentes@childpsych.columbia.edu.
