COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL GROUP THERAPY FOR SOCIALLY ANXIOUS ADULT PATIENTS

The Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders is launching a cognitive behavioral group therapy program for adults with social anxiety disorder or other interpersonal performance concerns.

This program was developed by Richard Heimberg, Ph.D., and is the empirically supported, gold standard treatment for social anxiety in adults. Many of the CUCARD staff were supervised by Dr. Heimberg during his tenure at SUNY-Albany and Temple University.

Groups will focus on:

  • Exposure-based treatment to reduce anxiety and increase self efficacy in social situations
  • Skill development in identification and correction of maladaptive thought patterns
  • Techniques in management of somatic symptoms of anxiety

Groups are short term (16-20 weeks) and will meet weekly.

We welcome active collaboration with current care providers around goals and objectives.
